Kuno Kick
In one episode, as frequently happens, Ranma is involved in a scuffle involving many participants. As he is ganged up on, he has very little time to react and is easily taken down. One of the participants in the scuffle is Kuno. Adam and Josh noticed that Kuno's main attack was a repetitive sweeping kick. Due to the fact that the animation of the scene repeated numerous times for comedic effect, this kick became all the more prominent. Adam and Josh began to focus on Kuno's attack alone, eventually dubbing his kick the Kuno Kick.
A notable instance of this kick outside of Ranma is in the Super Nintendo fighting game Gundam Wing Endless Duel. When playing as Wing Zero, the standing kick resembles the Kuno Kick, much to Adam and Josh's delight.
Ranma's Put-Out Walk
Ranma often has occasion to be inconvenienced by others. Usually, a good indication of his frustration is the way in which he walks: Arms out with elbows bent at 90 degree angles, legs bowed out with very high steps. Adam and Josh began to call this "Ranma's Put-Out Walk". Little by little they noticed other characters from other shows occasionally exhibiting the put-out walk, most notably Ataru from Urusei Yatsura. Although Urusei Yatsura aired first chronologically, it is Ranma that Adam and Josh watched first.
Quotes
It should be noted that Adam and Josh watch the English dub of the show exclusively, so all of these quotes come from the English translation.
"An Evil Oni"
In the OAV episode "Faster Kasumi! Kill! Kill!", an oni jumps from character to character, making them misbehave. A monk features prominently in the episode, and Adam and Josh were quick to note his odd voice. The combination of this and his awkwardly delivered line "An evil oni!" was enough to get them to memorialize the quote and mention it whenever an oni is mentioned.
"Charlotte!"
Azusa is a recurring side character with an obsession with cute things and a fetish for naming them. In her first appearance, she kidnaps P-chan and names him Charlotte. Azusa made such an impression on Adam that any time he sees the names Charlotte or Azusa, he makes sure to obnoxiously call out "Chaaaarlotte!" as Azusa does many times in the episode.
"He FELL for it!"
In the episode "Ryoga's Miracle Cure! Hand Over That Soap!", Ranma, in girl form, tricks Ryoga into meeting with who he thinks is Akane. After he shows up with the titular soap, Ranma clobbers him, takes it and runs off. Upon impact, Ranma yells out "He FELL for it!" For some reason, Adam and Josh have embraced this quote and used it anytime somebody is tricked into something.
"Like, what kind of really fun games?
In the episode "Step Outside!", a young boy takes in Genma in panda form, as his pampered pet. Ranma and Akane try to coax him into giving Genma back by getting him to play games with them. During the course of this, Ranma suggests they play some "really fun games", to which the boy dubiously replies "Like, what kind of really fun games?" in a pout. Josh really took to this phrase and began saying it to convince Adam to play various video games so he could watch them. Since then, any time either Adam or Josh say a phrase including "games", the other inevitably says this phrase in response.
"Sure."
In the episode "Ranma and the Evil Within", Ranma is seduced by his girl side, which separates from him at night due to Happosai's tampering. Because of this, Ranma gets very little sleep. During one of these instances, the others follow him to see what is happening. They find him sitting in a tree with his girl half, who jumps down and confronts the group. As she leaves him in the tree, she issues a command to Ranma. His simple response of "Sure." is very husky and low in tone, denoting his fatigue and trance-like state. For some reason, Adam and Josh enjoyed this brief response and will often reply in this manner when appropriate.
Sasuke's Friend
In the episode "Extra, Extra! Kuno & Nabiki: Read All About It!", Sasuke's fortune telling friend Gendo arrives to predict Kuno's future. Very much the freeloader, his friend immediately asks for lodging and food before rendering his services. His impudence produced many quotes that Adam and Josh enjoyed, some of which are listed below:
- "Hey Sasuke, isn't it about time for FOOD?"
- "You might not want to hear this, but...I'm hungry!"
- Sasuke: "How was I to know?!" Gendo: "I dunno. But ya shoulda."
"So it would seem, Tendo."
Over the course of the show, Soun and Genma share many conversations in which they put up a front of being much more intelligent and observant than they really are. During one such conversation, Soun makes an observation and Genma agrees, noting something along the lines of "So it seems, Tendo...sooo it would seem." Adam quickly adopted this quote and frequently used it when conversing with his friend Mike, to the extent that Mike himself eventually started using it.
Spicy Photos
In the episode "It's a Fine Line Between Pleasure and Pain", Kodachi attempts to blackmail Ranma with a compromising photograph. Ranma's attempts to stifle this get complicated when Kodachi makes numerous embellished copies. At one point, Ranma refers to these copies as "spicy photos", a phrase Adam and Josh very much enjoy. To this day, whenever there are some sort of compromising photos (or sometimes any photos at all), they refer to them as "spicy photos".
"The monk (who was also a monkey)"
Also from the OAV episode "Faster Kasumi! Kill! Kill!", the aforementioned strangely-voiced monk relates a story about how the oni was originally banished. In the story, the monk who accomplished this was apparently also a monkey - a point the current monk seems intent on emphasizing, as he mentions it at every opportunity.
Tough and Crunchy
Also from the episode "Ranma and the Evil Within", during one of the evenings in which Ranma rises from sleep to meet his separated girl half, Genma is shown sleeping next to Ranma. Genma is chewing on his pillow in his sleep, clearly dreaming about eating. Through a muffled voice, Genma mumbles "mmph..so tough and crunchy...", which Adam and Josh found highly amusing and repeated frequently.
"What does youth...HUNH!...mean to you?"
In the episode "Blow, Wind! To Be Young is to Go Gung-Ho", a new physical education teacher is hired at school. His over-the-top exuberance and frequent appeals to youth immediately annoy his students. His catchphrase during these appeals is rather pompous and sounds to Adam and Josh like a bad sales pitch. As such, they turned it into a catchphrase of their own, uttered whenever the subject of youth comes up.
