"2 Legit 2 Quit" was a song by rapper MC Hammer that was popular in 1991. The song had a revival of sorts with Adam and Josh in 2006. At some point, being amused by the female chorus of "hey heeeeey!" in the background during the "2 legit! 2 legit 2 quit!" chorus section, Adam and Josh began to employ this as a call and response. During one such session, Adam initiated the first half of the call and response ("2 legit!") while audibly peeing. Josh, from outside the bathroom and from his room, responded with the appropriate "hey heeeeey!". Both found this highly amusing and this trend caught on for a while.
Soon, Adam and Josh started coming up with specific similar sounding phrases to explain what they were "2 legit" for. For example:
- "If you're constipated, you're 2 legit 2 shit."
- "If you don't like short people, you're 2 legit 2 midget."
- "If you have dry mouth, you're 2 legit 2 spit."
- "If you have really clear skin, you're 2 legit 2 zit."
- "If you're a pro golfer, you're 2 legit 2 divot."
And so on. Adam and Josh actually took a decent amount of time to work through the alphabet to find as many possibilities as they could for words or short phrases that rhymed with "quit".
