Adam and Josh's parents often used to watch "Dateline NBC", hosted by Stone Phillips. After watching the show often enough with their parents, Adam and Josh began to notice a certain style with which Phillips would end many sentences: the entire sentence would lead up to a dramatic pause, followed by one or two important concluding words. For example:

"And in the end, everyone made many valuable memories that would stay with them... for years to come."

Adam and Josh said that upon finishing these sentences, Phillips would "reach his big... moral conclusions", as if he were righteously satisfied with his final judgment. Each time Phillips came to his conclusion, the final words would be accompanied by a self-satisfied nod of his head.

In the meantime, Adam took to referring to Phillips as "Stone-face Phillips" both as a play on his name and as a joke about his lack of facial expressions when reporting.

Despite this, Adam and Josh both liked Phillips and generally had nothing against him.
