In the mid-to-late 1990's, Adam and Josh were watching TV when a cereal commercial came on. Even though the exact commercial and prize offered are now lost to time, one particular statement stood out: the commonly used quote "ask your parents!" to absolve the cereal makers of the responsibility of the viewer's actions. Due to the poor sound quality of the commercial, both Adam and Josh heard the statement as "Slash your parents!" which they both found to be morose and, of course, highly comical. From that point on, upon hearing the phrase, Adam and Josh use their altered version using the same congenial tone the original commercial used.
