Blades of Steel is an ice hockey game produced by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. A number of corruptions have arisen from this game.
When the players first skate into the ring to start a match, they skate in circles on each side of the rink. As the players turn and show their profiles, the sticks almost seem to disappear due to the angle. The position of their bodies made Adam and Josh think of elephants and so they began to chant "El-eh-phant Dance! El-eh-phant Dance!" in rhythm with the music. As the players continue to skate, Adam or Josh would also make an elephant sound. At the end, the sound of a decrepit and old elephant was made (for no particular reason).
At the beginning of the match, as the referee drops the puck an audio sample of a man saying "Face off!" plays. Just before the clip plays, Adam or Josh quickly slip in "Shut up or I'll bite your-!" with the referee finishing the rest. The completed phrase is an old catch phrase between the two.
During the match, players can get into fights. When a fight breaks out, the game cuts to a subscreen, allowing the players to duke it out. The crowd can be seen cheering in the background. Josh noticed that the crowd's movements were particularly fluid and said that they were grooving. Remembering an old song by The Rascals, Josh started singing "Grooooovin'.... on a Sunday afternoon!" whenever a fight broke out.
The end result of a fight between players is that one gets knocked down while the other gains control of the puck. Just before the subscreen cuts away, the player who loses falls down while an audio sampling of "Augh!" plays. Josh noticed that as the player falls, he appears to cushion his fall. Josh said the player was cushioning his ass and began mocking him for it as he yelled "Augh!" along with the audio sample.
Whenever a team scores, the referee skates over to the goal, retrieves the puck, and skates away. Josh enjoyed the fact that the ref only had two frames of animation and began saying "Mon-key... mon-key..." in rhythm with the two frames. There is no particular reason for this.
At the end a match, the players skate around the rink similar to how they do at the start of a match. A different theme plays at this time and Adam and Josh took special note of a string of six notes of the song that only vaguely resemble the chorus of Bruce Springsteen's song "Born in the U.S.A.". They would sing "Made in the U-S-A" along with these notes, fully recognizing the incongruity of doing so.
