Punch-Out!! is a series of boxing video games created by Nintendo.
Many characters exhibit certain characteristics and mannerisms that Adam and Josh have corrupted.
Bald Bull is the Major Circuit champion. Occasionally, Bald Bull seems to be moving his gloves in a circular pattern around each other in order to misdirect the player. Whenever he does this, Josh says "Patty cake, patty cake..." as if Bald Bull is playing rather than fighting. When punching Bald Bull in the stomach, his eyes seem to boggle in his head. Punching him repeatedly in the stomach make his eye bobble even more. Adam and Josh make the noise "Ahw-blblblblblbl ahw-blblblblblbl!" as a sort of cartoonish onomatopoeia for his bouncing eyes. When the player knocks out Bald Bull, there is a pause as Bald Bull shows his surprised reaction and then slowly turns to fall. As he does so, Adam and Josh will say "Ah-HOO - the ring..." in reference to a line from the anime Sailor Moon when a character gets knocked out in a wrestling match. Josh noticed that the way Bald Bull looks when he turns reminds him of one of the evil giants from the BFG, due to the angle at which he falls.
Don Flamenco is the first opponent on the Major Circuit. At one point during the match, Flamenco takes a step back and raises his arm in a taunting manner. As he does so, he makes a taunting sound that, to Josh, resembles "C'mahn! C'mahnc'mahn!". Whenever Flamenco steps back, Adam and Josh say the taunt along with him. More often than not, Flamenco will be left wide open after his taunt. A simple left-right uppercut combo can be repeated until knockdown, preventing any sort of counterattack or block from Flamenco. Every time Flamenco's head flies back from a punch, a bit of spit flies out of his mouth. Somehow, this reminded Adam and Josh of going to the dentist and spitting after being told to rinse their mouth out. As such, every time the spit would appear, they would yell "Rinse!" and the repetition of the left-right combination came to be known as the "Rinse Groove".
Mario has a cameo as the referee during matches. He starts the matches and does the ten count when the player or opponent goes down. Josh noticed that the timing of Mario's counting was very inconsistent and often worked against the player. Adam and Josh began to believe that Mario, as part of the game, was conspiring to rig the matches.
In between rounds, Mac sits in his corner and receives advice from his mentor Doc Louis. Doc can be seen encouragingly patting his fist on Mac's upper arm. The player can press select during the screen to gain some health back and as confirmation of this, Doc's patting gets faster. Wondering how this increased patting could be beneficial to Little Mac, Adam and Josh imagined Doc actually sabotaging Little Mac by giving him a dead arm. Whenever Adam and Josh would use the select trick to regain health, they'd yell "Dead arm! Dead arm!" as if Doc were yelling it himself as his patting sped up.
In the early 2000's, Adam obtained music creation software called ACID. During this time, Adam was playing a lot of emulation including Super Punch Out!! so many characters, particularly Mr. Sandman, were on his mind. One day, Adam and Josh hatched a scheme to create a theme song for Mr. Sandman using ACID. Dubbing themselves "DJ Whiteboy" they created "Mr. Sandman (Second Mix)". It was such a success that they later created a theme for Bald Bull as well.
When the player loses the game, Little Mac can be seen from the front sitting despondently on his stool. The lighting of the scene, combined with the way he is sitting, made it appear to Adam and Josh that Little Mac is sitting on a toilet.
After defeating opponent, Little Mac often makes a comment in regards to how the fight went. If an opponent is defeated handily, Little Mac remarks "Piece of cake!". The poor audio sampling made this sound like "Pizza cake!" to Josh. Every time Little Mac makes the "piece of cake" comment, Josh always follows it up by saying "Pizza cake!".
Aran Ryan is the first opponent on the World Circuit. He appears as a large, very white individual. Due to his whiteness and the not so great quality of the audio introduction, Adam and Josh began referring to him as "Aryan Ryan".
Dragon Chan is the second opponent in the Major Circuit. The audio sample of his introduction sounded to Adam and Josh as if Dragon was pronounced "Du-ragon!". Seizing on this, they began to refer to Dragon Chan as Du-ragon Chan. Eventually, this spread to other instances of the word dragon in other media. Some examples include:
- Du-ragon Tank!; Du-ragon wheel!; Du-ragon head! (from Chrono Trigger)
- Du-ragon Ball! (from Dragonball)
- Du-ran Du-ran! (the band)
Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!
