Certain songs might feature a solo or section by an instrument that isn't as noticeable in the rest of the song. Josh took particular notice of this trait in the opening theme of the Cowboy Bebop anime. In it, there is a section where bongo drums are heard being played rather skillfully. Josh referred to this as "mad bongo action". Since then, any song that uses bongo drums is said to have "mad bongo action".
This phrasing can be applied to any situation where an instrument is featured this way. For example, the song "Take it Easy" by The Eagles has banjo throughout, but at the very end the playing becomes more dominant and skillful. Thus, the song features "mad banjo action".
