Ocarina of Time
Link's Shenanigans
Epona Abuse
While riding Epona, Link is able to shoot arrows. The camera switches to first person perspective, enabling the player to aim better. At the bottom of this view is Epona's head. At one point, either Adam or Josh noticed that if one aimed low enough, one could shoot Epona in the head. Assured that the game would not enable the player to hurt Epona, Adam and Josh would shoot the horse in the head with impunity, to which she reacted by simply shrugging it off.
Back-flipping through Hyrule Field
Before obtaining Epona, the player must make numerous treks through Hyrule Field, which can be a time consuming process. In order to help alleviate this burden, Josh resorted to an alternate method of travel. While Link is locked on to a target, he can jump from side to side as well as back-flip. However, even in the absence of a target, if the appropriate button is held down Link can perform these moves. Josh began traveling through Hyrule Field by constantly back-flipping from point to point. This became a standard method of traveling, despite the fact that doing so obscures enemies and other obstacles from the player.
Potty Mouth
Link makes various utterances when performing moves such as jumping and slashing with his sword. One such utterance is made when young Link attacks. It sounded to Adam and Josh like he was yelling "Crap!" possibly in annoyance at fighting pesky enemies. When adult Link similarly attacks, his utterance sounded to Adam and Josh like an extended "Shiiit!", an upgrade to his cursing. Adam and Josh refuse to entertain any notion that Link is saying anything other than those two words.
Boots
Link equips various boots throughout his journey, and most have their own distinct powers. While watching their friend Mike play through the game, Adam and Josh, with Mike's help, came up with creative descriptions for the boots. Noting that the Iron Boots were particularly noisy, they noted "The Iron Boots are those of immense racket". The Water Temple requires one to alternate between the Iron Boots and the standard Kokiri Boots when appropriate. Given that unequipping the Iron Boots in favor of the Kokiri Boots would make Link instantly buoyant, they noted "The Kokiri Boots are those of ascension". The final boots - the Hover Boots - enable Link to briefly float in the air when over gaps. However, when running like normal, Link has poor traction and slides around easily. Josh began to refer to them as the "Butter Boots", and noted "The Butter Boots are those of slippage".
Gannon's Enthusiasm
In the first half of the final battle of the game, Gannon floats above and circles around Link. His primary attack consists of charging up a ball of energy and throwing it at Link. Adam and Josh noticed that the noises Gannon made while engaging in this attack made it clear that he was really into the battle. The charging portion has Gannon uttering "ooooohhhhhh", a sound of effort. Upon releasing the energy, it sounded to Adam and Josh like he was yelling "BOOYAAAA!!", which confirmed their belief in Gannon's enthusiasm. From then on, whenever Ocarina of Time or the battle with Gannon was mentioned, Adam and/or Josh would make sure to yell "Ooooooooh...BOOYAAAAAA!"
Trolley Music
Whenever a standard enemy comes close enough to Link to be considered within range to do damage, the normal music will often fade away to be replaced by dramatic music with a fast tempo, suggesting pending danger. The general disposition of this track greatly reminded Adam and Josh of the theme music for the trolley in Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Josh enhanced the reference by adding occasional trolley bell noises. The fact that a potentially dangerous situation for Link is reduced to a comedic reference was furthered by the realization that the same music plays when Link is fishing and is in the middle of attempting to reel in a fish.
Twilight Princess
One of the anime series Adam and Josh have watched is titled Sexy Commando. It is a highly comedic series with numerous non sequitors. One catchphrase (whose origin and meaning is never explained) is "Cleanup Princess!", which characters often say in greeting one another, often accompanied by a smile and a gleaming thumbs up. Noting the similarity of the phrase to the game's title, Josh began referring to the game in the same manner as the quote, complete with the Japanese accent and gleaming thumbs up.
