Culdcept is a turn-based strategy video game that shares elements with other games such as Monopoly and various collectible card games. The player constructs decks of cards and does battle with rival deck users. MANY corruptions have arisen from this game.

The Concept of Beefing

Over the course of the game, the player places creatures on spaces on the playing board much like tokens in Monopoly. At specific times, the player may spend resources to increase the value of a particular territory. Misinterpreting this as increasing the value of the creature, Adam began to refer to these upgrades as "beefing". Whenever the option presents itself, Adam insists that Josh "beef a creature" regardless of the advantages or disadvantages.

In one particular level, Malthessburg, Adam lovingly adapted his constant advice by applying the word "beef" as the only lyric to the level's music.

Auditory Cues

There are multiple points throughout the game where Adam and Josh are prompted to respond in a particular way, most of which are via comments made by the game moderator.

"DisCARD your CARD"

If the player has too many cards, one needs to be discarded. The game moderator notifies the player of this but seems to place extra emphasis the "card" in discard, and on "card" itself at the expense of the other syllables. In typical form, Adam and Josh exaggerated this disparity and will mimic the quote when it comes up in game play.

Lap Chime

Each time a player laps the board, they receive a bonus punctuated with a brief fanfare. Adam will respond to this in one of two ways:

- singing "beeeef beeeeeeeef!" along with the fanfare
- singing the notes of the fanfare in a high-pitched operatic manner

Adam himself does not know which of the two he will choose until the moment before he does it. Only the first way is accompanied by an exaggerated encouraging arm gesture.

"Good luck to your next journey!"

Following the fanfare, the moderator offers words of encouragement: "Good luck to your next journey!". The game suffers from poor translation as a whole and Adam and Josh enjoy repeating the message in earnest after it's received.

"Raped"

If a player lands on a territory with an excessively high toll, there is a crunching sound and they are lifted and shaken horribly while coins fly from them. Adam and Josh refer to this as being "raped" and make sure to nonchalantly state the fact when it happens.

"I am exHAUsted!"

As the players use their decks, there comes a time when the cards are used up and the deck needs to be reshuffled. When this happens, a message pops up as the deck reshuffles. Owing to the game's poor translation, the message reads "The book is exhausted". Josh found the use of the word "exhausted" humorous and when it comes up, responds to the message with a Brian Regan inflection saying "Oh man... I am exHAUsted!".

The Real True Winner

After winning a match, the game moderator announces "The true winner!", with added emphasis on "true". This made Adam and Josh think of the old rap song "Pimp of the Year" in which Dru Down asserts that he is "the real true pimp of the year... bitch". Adam and Josh adapted this to the game and started announcing "the real true winner" instead.

At a later date, Josh had a dream that involved some sort of fighting on horseback. In order to lead his troops into battle, Josh did some sort of truly awkward battle position to rally his men. This consisted of what seemed to be the traditional raising of a sword in the direction of the battle to spur the troops on, only it was exaggerated to the extent that Josh was leaning far, far forward so that his sword was nearly pointed to the ground instead of the sky because of the arc of his arm. Part of the post match screen in Culdcept shows a statue of a person mimicking the real inspirational pose, so Josh now does his own exaggerated rallying position in recreation of his dream.

Miscellaneous

Naming Scheme

Culdcept is one of the many video games that conform to Josh's Video Game Character Naming Scheme.

"Get Some Sleep"

There are a few characters in the game that appear to be suffering from insomnia, namely Leo and Luthien. Both characters have what seem to be dark circles under their eyes, prompting Josh to dismissively and curtly recommend to them that they "get some sleep" each time their picture is shown.

Card List

Many of the cards themselves have been corrupted. The bulk of them are due to Adam being half asleep while watching Josh play and blurting out alternate names. The list of card corruptions is as follows (format: real name/corrupted name):

Chonchon / Ears
Dark Elf / Merle (in reference to the character from the anime The Vision of Escaflowne)
Death Gaze / Death Geezer
Fighter / Juice Box (the fighter's shield has a broken arrow in it, making it look like a juice box with a straw sticking out)
Fly / Fly You Fool (in reference to Gandalf's urgent plea to Frodo)
Growth Body / Missile Doggy (in reference to another corruption from the video game Garou: Mark of the Wolves)
Hell Hound / Devil Dog
Holy Word * / Monkey Face * (in reference to the faces on the card looking like monkeys)
